CantiamoPDX 2026 is almost here!

Bel canto, which means “beautiful singing” in Italian, is a classical vocal style that developed in Italy and became especially influential in the 18th and early 19th centuries. It emphasizes a beautiful, even tone, smooth legato singing, vocal flexibility, expressive phrasing, and refined control of dynamics.

Today, bel canto is often associated with the music of composers such as Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti. More broadly, it represents an approach to singing that combines technical excellence with expressive artistry, allowing singers to perform with both elegance and emotional depth.
